NEHAWU Free State Calls For an urgent Intervention At The Central University of Technology
Friday June 17, 2022
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in the Free State Province calls for an urgent intervention at the Central University of Technology [CUT] by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
Our call for an intervention at CUT comes against the background of poor governance, financial mismanagement, maladministration, procurement, union bashing, victimisation, harassment, intimidation of employees and violation of recruitment policies.
As NEHAWU, we have been at the forefront of highlighting the scourge of poor governance, financial mismanagement and maladministration that has engulfed the institution.
Recently, the union had submitted a memorandum of demands to the university council as a result of the failure by management to resolve the myriad of issues that have engulfed the institution. We called on the university council to hold management accountable.
The union will not stand idle and watch an institution of learning such as CUT deteriorate as a result of poor governance and maladministration. If the situation is allowed to persist, the institution will fall short of achieving its strategic vision of being a leading African University of Technology, shaping the future through innovation.
As NEHAWU, we pride ourselves as a union that advocates for clean governance and hence the call for an intervention at CUT which amongst others things must probe and investigate financial mismanagement and procurement irregularities at the institution.
Lastly, we will do everything in our power to ensure that there is proper and quality governance at CUT and that the management of the institution is held accountable.
